Welcome to Ceramics II Follow the Syllabus carefully!
One project due each week! We will be concerned with form, design and decoration, besides increasing our technique of throwing pots on the wheel or hand building
1. Design and construct a Teapot I t can be hand-built or wheel thrown. Must have a lid, spout and handle. It can be functional or non-functional. _________________________________________ 2. Make 4 matching mugs or cups Again they can be hand-built or wheel thrown. Weigh 4 pieces of clay on a scale first, then form you cups or mugs. Handles are optional. |
3. Design and construct a monument to your self.
MASK This may be symbolic or realistic. It must be a single form using slab construction. You may sculpt, carve or impress designs into it. The only letters that may be used are those in your name or intitules. The finished product must represent you as you would wish to be remembered. _________________________________________ 4. Make graduated set of Three Bowls (NESTING BOWLS) Make sure they can fit into each other. Start with the largest bowl first. (Remember, NEATNESS counts!) |
5. Pottery Designed to hold a Light Source.
LUMINARY Based on the 5 basic forms and their variations create drawings of 5 different luminary design ideas. * See Handout * _________________________________________ 6. Two Piece Forms, or Closed forms. (2) Lidded Jars Design a form that requires the construction of two sections for completion. Such forms may include lidded jars, kitchen canisters, cookie jars, and casserole bowls. Continue to develop your “style” or “signature.” Remember decoration techniques may be done while your work is still very wet and plastic, while it is leather hard. 7. Project of your Choice. |
GRADING CRITERIA
1. You will be graded on projects or assignments finished. Emphasis is on individual progress, and grades are given accordingly. In no way is one students work evaluated with that of another.
